Vegan Googly Eyes (egg free and dairy free)

Make your own homemade, vegan googly eyes and decorate cookies, cupcakes, and more. This recipe is egg free and dairy free. Vegan candy eyes are hard to find in the store, since most are made with gelatin, confectioners glazes, or egg whites. Making your own vegan googly eyes at home is the perfect solution!

Cuisine: Dairy-Free, Egg-Free, Vegan
Servings: 50 - 100 eyes

Equipment

  • piping bag, baking sheet, parchment paper (or wax paper)

Ingredients

  • 120 grams organic powdered sugar (1 cup)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon aquafaba, brine from a can of chickpeas
  • 100-200 vegan mini chocolate chips (semi-sweet, or dark chocolate)

Instructions

  • Line flat baking sheet with parchmend, or vegan wax paper. In a bowl, mix together the powdered sugar and cornstarch. Add the remaining ingredients (except for the chocolate chips) and mix until combined. It should be a thick paste at this point.
  • Transfer the paste into a piping bag, and pipe dots into rows onto the prepared baking sheet. You can make them all the same size, or make different sizes. Gently top each dot with a mini chocolate chip in the center. Don't want to wait too long to put the chocolate chip into the piped sugar dot because the googly eyes start setting quickly. Repeat until all the paste is gone.
  • Allow the googly eyes to set for 24-48 hours on your counter. When completely dry they will just slide off the parchment paper.
