Ingredients

  • pizza dough for 2 Ø35cm / 14” pizzas; or 4 Ø18cm / 7” pizzas
  • 240 ml Pomì marinara sauce (1 cup)
  • 2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 225 g vegan mozzarella cheese, eg Miyoko's (8 oz)
  • Black and green olives

To make pizza dough from scratch

  • 500 g bread flour (17.7 oz)
  • 300 ml lukewarm water (10.2 fl oz )
  • 30 ml olive oil (2 tbsp)
  • 7 g active dry yeast (2 tsp)
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon cane sugar

Instructions

To make pizza dough from scratch

  • Skip this step and follow package instructions, if using store-bought crust instead. Sift the flour into a mixing bowl and mix with the dry yeast. In a measuring cup, mix the water, oil, sugar, and salt and add to the flour. Knead the mixture for at least 10-15 minutes to form a smooth dough. Cover with a clean kitchen towel, or reusable bowl cover. Let rise at room temperature for 30 minutes and then in the refrigerator for 24hours (or up to 48 hours).

Preparing spooky pizza

  • Preheat the oven and baking tray to 250°C / 480°F. Cut the dough into half for Ø35cm / 14” pizzas, or quarter for Ø18cm / 7” pizzas. Turn pieces in flour and shape into a thin round base by pressing and pulling. Place pizza crust on lightly floured parchment paper. Let it rest while you prepare the toppings.
  • To prepare pizza sauce pour Marinara Sauce into a bowl and add 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning.
  • To prepare the spooky toppings cut the cheese into slices and then into ghost shapes with a ghost-shaped cookie cutter; or by hand with a paring knife. Cut the olives into spider shapes. Cutting an olive in half will create the spider body, cutting another olive into half and then into 8 slices will create the legs. Use pieces of black olives as eyes for the ghosts. Spread Marinara Sauce onto pizzas. Top pizza with spooky toppings as desired, slide onto a hot baking sheet. Turn down the temperature to 220°C / 425°F and bake for 15 minutes each.
  • Sprinkle pizzas with the remaining teaspoon of Italian seasoning, and optional with some more olive oil. Enjoy!
