💡 The recipe in a nutshell

    • Vegan (dairy-free and no eggs)
    • Starbucks Styled Coffee
    • Easy: Made in less than 10 minutes
    • Olive oil in coffee

🤔 What is Olive Oil Coffee?

Olive Oil Coffee is coffee infused with olive oil by either adding it directly to the coffee, or into the milk or milk foam.

Even though adding olive oil to coffee isn’t a new concept, Starbucks is recently making a buzz worldwide with its new line of Oleato lattes. They started out in Italy, but made their way to the US recently! Strabucks’ Oleato coffees are infused with Partanna extra virgin olive oil, which gives the drinks depth and a buttery flavor, according to Starbucks.

So far they have released Oleato Golden Foam™ Cold Brew, Oleato™ Golden Café Latte with Oatmilk, and Oleato™ Iced Shaken Espresso with Oatmilk and Toffeenut in the US. Oleato is inspired by the Latin word for “olive” and an Italian word that nods to the process of infusing olive oil with coffee.

    📋 Ingredients

To make a vegan Olive Oil coffee at home you need a few ingredients:

    • Vegan barista milk: Starbucks uses Oatly Barista Edition oat milk, but feel free to use any vegan barista milk brand of your choice.
    • Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Davinci’s Premium EVOO is widely available in US grocery stores and has a wonderful balance of flavor and aroma complementing the milk foam and coffee
    • Hazelnut syrup: gives it that extra aroma and flavor! You can also use a different flavored syrup of your choice.
    • Vanilla extract: adding comforting flavor to the olive oil cold foam
    • Coffee: Highground’s Instant Coffee has a great flavor. Prepare it cold within seconds without a coffee machine!
    • Ice cubes (optional)

👩🏽‍🍳 How to make olive oil coffee

Making olive oil coffee at home is super simple. It is ready in just a few minutes following these steps.

    1. Mix ice-cold water and Highground coffee in a glass.
    2. In a jar, or milk pan, add all ingredients for the olive oil cold foam: barista milk, Davinci’s Premium EVOO, hazelnut syrup, and vanilla extract.
    3. Fully submerge the milk frother. Turn on the frother and froth until the milk starts to thicken, slowly pulling the wand towards the top of the milk. Froth for about 15 to 20 seconds or until the foam is thick and stabilized.
    4. Add ice to the coffee, then pour frothed milk on top of the iced coffee. Serve immediately. Enjoy!

☕ How to store olive oil coffee

This olive oil coffee is best fresh, but if you need to store it, store it in the fridge for up to 3 days. If possible store olive oil cold foam and cold coffee separately from one another in airtight containers.

What’s the difference between barista milk and regular milk?

Barista milk is designed to be used in coffee! Barista milk has more protein and is extra fatty and creamy. Additionally, it differs in emulsifiers, thickeners, and acidity regulators compared to regular milk.
